The September 11 Memorial at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office in Murfreesboro is a local treasure which deserves to be more well known. However, it's not visible from the main road (New Salem Rd. or TN99) and most people wouldn't casually be visiting the local jail. It was dedicated in 2011 on the 10th anniversary. The 3,000 pound I-beam is from the North Tower of the World Trade Center. It points directly toward New York City to the right. The three posts supporting the tilted beam represent 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers and 8 EMS personnel killed saving others. The four urns, one at each corner, represent the four airplanes which crashed that day. If you zoom in, set inside the concrete below the beam is debris which I assume is representative of the type of debris found at the site.
