 Soccer fans in the Bolivian village of Ixiamas were so excited with
their team's 3-1 victory against Uruguay in a World Cup quailifying game that
they didn't notice their homes were on fire.  By the time the fire was spotted,
it had spread to 40 homes.  The fire began when firecrackers thrown by fans
landed on the thatched roofs of homes.

 About 20 first-term House members were asked,"Do you approve of what
we're doing to stop what's going on in Freedonia?" or "Do you approve of what
were doing to stop ethnic cleansing in Freedonia?"  Replies included "take
action" and "it's a different situation than in the Middle East."  None of the
20 House members recognized the fictitious nation of Freedonia from the 1933
Marx Brothers film "Duck Soup."

 Outlaw Tiburcio Vazquez was the hands-down winner in a local conest to
name a new high school in Agua Dulce, Cal., winning out over the likes of
Magic Johnson and John Wayne.  Vazquez, whose reputation for cattle rustling
and stagecoach robbing earned him the title Scourge of California, was hanged
for murder in 1875.

 The cable telivision company that serves Charleston, SC, aimed a camera
fulltime at an aquarium to occupy a vacant channel while awaiting the start-up
of the Science-fiction channel.  When the Science-Fiction channel replaced the
"fish channel," complaints were so numerous that the cable company was forced
to find another channel for the aquarium, which ran 14 hours a day.
