The company was started in 1895 by Vanderbilt Engineer Arthur Dyer. In 1915, they became a shipbuilder, becoming the world's largest inland barge builder. George Steinbrenner bought the company in 1969. In 1996, the city decided this was the spot for the Titans stadium. I barely remember what all the industialness looked like across from downtown back then and this building is all that remains. For years, it's remained vacant, but I see where the city is now doing something with it.
