In autumn of 1942, almost 850,000 Soldiers from 25 US Army divisions, making up the Red and Blue Armies, were training for World War II. Headquartered at Cumberland University in Lebanon and spread out in over 20 Middle Tennessee counties with terrain much like Western Europe, the Red and Blue “armies” faced each other in complex and realistic training exercises. River crossings, terrain navigation, vehicle operations and many other components of training would claim the lives of over 250 Soldiers. This monument was placed on the grounds of Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN for the 50th Anniversary of World War II.
