In 1978, there was a railroad disaster in Waverly. Two days after a train with flammable liquids derailed, there was a large explosion killing several recovery officials and locals. Near this location has been a museum and memorial centered around a caboose. The museum is across the street from the tracks and this modern railroad building is there now. the TN13 overpass is in the background.
